Indigo Dyeing Workshop at Essa Arts in Jackson, MI (1st Class)

  • Essa Arts 1931 Horton Road Jackson, MI, 49203 United States (map)

Join Justine at Essa Arts in this hands on fabric dyeing workshop!
Registration is $45, Click here to sign up!

Students will learn some of the different techniques used to create patterns on fabric - clamping, folding, & binding. This is the ancient Japanese practice of fabric dyeing with resists called shibori! Garments will then be hand dyed in organic indigo sugar vats, which will also be made during class.

2 cotton bandanas & all other supplies will be provided with registration fee. You will also receive an information sheet that will help guide you to explore indigo dyeing at home!

You are welcome to bring one other small garment for dyeing (nothing larger than a t shirt please) ** Please make sure the fiber content is cellulose (cotton, rayon, modal, hemp, bamboo, silk). **

Please feel free to bring snacks & drinks! Because of the timing & length of this workshop, there will likely be down time as we cannot all use the vat at the same time.

SPACE IS LIMITED to 8 people!

Registration is $45, Click here to sign up!

** Cancellations must be done by September 22nd in order to get a full refund **

Please know that your health and safety is our highest priority and we will be monitoring the COVID situation closely - if conditions worsen again & class must be canceled, full refunds will be made.

The classroom at Essa Arts is intimate & we will all be working in close proximity. Masks will be mandatory when in this space together. Distancing will also be honored & only a few people will be able to work on the each step of the process at a time, making the class work a little bit like an assembly line. There is easy access to step outside for some fresh air or to mingle in a larger space.

** Will provide disposable masks & gloves for class **
